Tape for microfluidic devices
The tape for microfluidic devices is an incredibly groundbreaking tape that has never been seen before. Simply applying it to the device allows blood and other fluids to flow smoothly.
A microfluidic device is a device created by applying semiconductor microfabrication technology and precision processing technology, consisting of a main channel with a depth width of several micrometers to several hundred micrometers, numerous side channels, and a reservoir (container) arranged downstream. The structure itself varies widely. Our company has developed a method to easily and quickly separate and distribute blood using such devices by simply applying a transparent, thicker polyester film adhesive tape to the back of the microchannel (PC). The surface tension of the special adhesive allows the blood droplets to instantly flow into several delicate side channels and be extracted into the downstream reservoir container. Typically, methods such as magnetic separation, centrifugation, or sealing circuits with syringe sponges or hydrophilic films are used, which are inefficient and incur high costs for equipment. Our developed tape provides a very ideal method for inexpensive and rapid separation and distribution simply by being applied to the device. It has already been applied to 10 million devices overseas this fiscal year, and we expect its use to continue to expand.
